How do I create a new DAM in RAMMS?
This tutorial describes how to create a new DAM in RAMMS.
IMPORTANT: This is only a very simple routine....if you want to create an accurate DAM, please use ArcGIS instead (or any other program) and export a new ASCII grid file and then create a new project in RAMMS.
Steps to build a DAM in RAMMS:
- Open a project INPUT file where you want to build a new DAM.
- Use the 'Draw new release area' function to draw a dam-polygon. Name it appropriately (e.g. dam_outer, see below).
- Draw a second, inner dam-polygon if you wish (it's possible to have an inner and outer polygon, and to specify different heights for each polygon area, see inner polygon below.
- It is possible to add a relative or a absolute dam height to the DEM.
- Choose 'GIS/GRASS -> Add DAM to DEM... -> Enter Relative Dam Height'
- Specify the first (outer) dam file, see below:
- Answer the question if you have an second (inner) polygon file with 'Yes' or 'No', see below:
- Click 'Yes' and specify the second (inner) polygon file, otherwise skip the next point.
- Enter the total relativ dam height, e.g. 30m, see below:
- Enter intermediate dam height for the area of (outer-inner), e.g. 10m. See the resultant dam later to know the meaning of the intermediate height.
- Enter name of new DEM, see below:
- The new DEM file will be created. Now create a new project with the newly created DEM file, see result below
- If you choose 'GIS/GRASS -> Add DAM to DEM... -> Enter Dam Elevation', choose one dam polygon file (e.g. the inner polygon) and enter a final dam elevation of e.g. 1360m, then the result looks like this:
